Version 1.5: YourDVR.xanview.com, Monitoring Services and More!

You probably noticed that you now open your system by visiting the friendlier: yourdvr.xanview.com link.

Beforehand, you may remember you had to enter an IP address or a link like: xanview_id.homeip.net – this small change may seem cosmetic but there is a lot more that was changed and added behind the scenes.

Website Login & Status Page

Internal changes to Xanview software now means every time your DVR connects or reconnects to the internet, our servers get notified and store information about your DVR. This includes new server address, a log if the server was rebooted, various health information about the DVR and more.

This allows you to access your DVR by visiting yourdvr.xanview.com or xanview.com/yourdvr

If you also have any of our Monitoring Packages (see bellow), you will also get health graphs and uptime information, even if the DVR is currently offline. You will know exactly what the DVR was doing prior to going offline which can often help in diagnosing the problem.

Access Behind Firewall

Sometimes the modem or router in use decides to reset itself which locks you out of your DVR. Normally in this case you would need to have one of our engineers or another qualified network engineer visit the location and re-configure the modem. This creates downtime and is a great inconvenience.

Let us introduce the new Xanview VPN.

As of today, all Xanview systems are connected to a virtual network which means:

  1. Modems/Routers can be reconfigured remotely
  2. Access to system remains even behind firewall (Monitoring Package required, see bellow)
  3. When changing connection or even location, we no longer require an engineer visit

Monitoring Packages

What good is a monitoring or security system, if you aren’t aware of faults?

When people install a typical security or monitoring system, they treat it as a black box. The go to it only whenever some major event occurred, only to find nothing was recorded.

Failure comes in many flavours, these include:

  1. System Tampering: Intentional actions to hinder the operation of the system.
  2. Hardware Failure: Sensor in Camera, Hard Drive, Power Supply, UPS.
  3. Other Events: Internet disconnection, wire accidentally kicked, other unforeseen events.

While unlike other systems, ours is more of a day today business tool than a black box, so failures are generally quickly detected, monitoring services do offer a piece of mind that if a failure occurs, you will know about it.

Please visit our Packages section on the website for more details.
